The Art of Rene Snyman

Friday 5, August 2011

Dear Subscriber,

Hello everyone! During my previous newsletter all of you were acquainted with the fact that I have been travelling most of the time. It would seem as if this year indeed has a lot of travelling on the agenda! Nevertheless, that's what it takes to be the artists that we are!

Beautiful Namibia

As such, I have recently returned from a trip to our neighbouring country of Namibia. Amazingly, I was 2 days short from being 7 weeks away from my studio! However, it was surely worth the time spent there. My visit to Namibia was my first time, and for quite a while before that it was a longing of mine to pay a visit to this country. This has been born when a artist friend of mine, Lienkie Lombard, returned with photographs they took in Namibia-specifically of the Epupa falls near the Angolan border. I did not sleep that night! All I knew was that next year at this time, I want to be there! Many thanks is due to dear friends of mine Grobler and Marlene du Preez  for joining me on this journey. I believe in due time some great artworks will be birthed from this experience.

It is of particular note that Namibia has now received the most rain in this year then ever before in its history, so one could just imagine the landscape of this desert country. The grass were beautifully gentle-many times Istoodpainting there, and it could almost reach up to my waist. During the trip I made a few studies, mostly of Epupa falls and Spitzkoppe. I painted some scenes several times in different light conditions. Usually, I had to get up very, very early in order to be on site when the sun hits the spot. All in all, it was magnificent experience to behold such grand scenery.

As one drives through the country, it is laden with numerous cattle, donkeys and goats roaming free. The people of this country exhibits such awesome harmony. Apart from their friendliness, there is much trust to be found among each other and towards tourists as well. What really also stood out was their immense generosity, a character trait hard to miss in their person.

In essence, it is a country with many faces and still very much unspoilt. If ever you have a change to visit, don't hesitate- GO!!! On my blog more reading on this can be found.

"Three Sisters" 40x70" (100x175cm)

In the meantime I have  been doing some commissions for some families here in my studio. This is a life-size one of three sisters- beautiful children. What a privilege it was. It was such apriviledge seeing this painting hanging framed in the client's house-a honour rarely bestowed upon me. View a close-up of this painting on my website

Painting of the month

The painting for this month is called " A Voice like Many Waters" 14x18"(35x45cm)

This is one of the studies I did while I was in Namibia. Although it is a study, it is very special. That particular morning I sat in worship at the Ruacana waterfall...and in scripture "His voice is like the voice of many waters" came to mind. The painting then, was a result that afternoon of this beautiful day with its lingering atmosphere. This painting isavailable at  Adlou Gallery
